Jim McElwaine is a professor of music and founder of the studio composition program at Purchase College. His professional writing and performing credits include more than 700 recordings on major and independent labels; multiple Grammy and Tony nominations; gold and platinum recordings; two Broadway and 11 Off Broadway orchestrations; and a Drama Desk Award for Best Orchestration (Goblin Market). He has collaborated with Joseph Papp, Charles Ludlam, Steven Spielberg, Jim Henson, Garrison Keillor, Max Morath, Mary Wilson, Randy Newman, Marvin Gaye, and Afrika Bambaataa, among many others.
